(Heroes of Might and Magic 3 works perfectly on my wife's laptop with no tweaking, which runs Kubuntu 11.10 and Wine 1.2.3. I fully support what Red Hat is trying to do here, and I appreciate all the good stuff this project does upstream (which is why I'm still going to wear my freshly-purchased bright red Fedora to a Christmas party to show my Red Hat pride), but I think Fedora (the OS) might be a bit too "bleeding edge" for me at the moment - I just want my OS to work the way it's supposed to. It's not ideal, but now at least I can see the entirety of what's supposed to be on the game screen.Īlso, after visiting WineHQ, I found out that Wine 1.3.33 is an unstable version of Wine, yet it's what was available from add/remove software. I seem to have fixed my current problem though, by forcing fallback mode in gnome. With my current problem, I can't see 85% of what's supposed to be on the screen, because 85% of my screen is solid light blue. This sounds like your problem, I think?I experienced that problem with Fedora 15, and my current problem is definitely much more severe than that with that problem, I could just hit alt-tab at the appropriate times and continue playing. A small one is probably good for an old game anyway. ![]() Hmm I have no idea, except have you tried running it in a Wine virtual desktop (in Wine Config)? Set it to 800圆00 or whatever screen resolution you prefer. (Heroes of Might and Magic 2 works flawlessly in DOSBOX using the open source video card driver). I figured if a video card driver can't handle DOSBOX it's probably not worth using. I did briefly try the proprietary AMD video card driver, but it crashed upon trying run Heroes of Might and Magic 2 in DOSBOX, so I uninstalled it. I'm currently using Wine 1.3.33 (what was available for download from Add/Remove Software) and I'm using the open source video card driver. To do so, open the Action Center by clicking the notification icon at the right side of your taskbar, or by pressing Windows+A. Click or tap the tile again to disable Rotation Lock. Click or tap the Rotation Lock quick action tile to lock your screen in its current orientation. ![]() ![]() The remainder of my screen was solid light blue. To do so, open the Action Center by clicking the notification icon at the right side of your taskbar, or by pressing Windows+A. When I tried to play the game, it ran, and the image was not distorted except that the whole screen was shifted about three inches up and about ten inches to the left, so that the majority of the image was not being displayed (I could only see the bottom right corner of the game's opening menu screen in the upper left corner of my screen). I then installed Heroes of Might and Magic 3, the GOG.com version (This is not a fancy 3D game, it is a 2D game that was originally made for Windows 98). I recently installed Fedora 16, updated my system, and installed Wine.
